Sedimentary Geology Class meets on Fire Island
On September 16, 2001 Professor
Nicholas Christie-Blick accompanied his Earth
and Environmental Sciences W4223 Sedimentary Geology class
and guests to Fire Island to study sedimentary processes at
a modern barrier island. As geology is a science that lends
itself to teaching outdoors, Professor Christie-Blick led
two other field trips in September, focused on the sedimentary
geology of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains.
He is currently planning a spring
break excursion for first-year and sophomore students to Death
Valley and adjacent areas in the eastern California desert
- a chance to see geology in action, and to look back more
than 1 billion years through geological time, in an area of
outstanding vistas and natural beauty.
