CCW invites you to join scholar and author Mary E. Pattillo, CC'91, for a discussion moderated by LaToya Tavernier CC'05 on the Black middle class in these times of pandemic and urban unrest.

Drawing from her research in Chicago, Dr. Pattillo will discuss how racial segregation, the labor market, the health system, and policing affect Black middle class families. She will also discuss the role of the Black middle class in urban neighborhoods and politics during these strange and tumultuous times.

Dr. Pattillo is Chair of the Department of African American Studies and Harold Washington Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Northwestern University. She is the author of "Black Picket Fences: Privilege and Peril among the Black Middle Class"; and "Black on the Block: The Politics of Race and Class in the City."
