Mentoring Current Students

There is no better way to strengthen ties to the College and the University than by getting involved in the life of a student through mentorship programs.

Alumni who mentor provide insight, friendship and career guidance to Columbia undergraduates, exposing them to a wide variety of career paths. Beyond career guidance, mentors also provide inspiration and support, assisting students in forging their own way on campus and in the world.

Successful mentoring relationships depend on initiatives by both mentor and student.

To become part of a student’s life, alumni mentors often:

  • Take a student to lunch or dinner
  • Host a job-shadowing day at their workplace
  • Participate in on-campus and off-campus activities that reflect common interests
  • Make themselves available to a student, whether in person, by phone or via email

Together, mentors and students form a community that extends well beyond the Morningside campus.
