Ten faculty members were honored with Lenfest Distinguished Teaching Awards, created in 2005 by Gerry Lenfest LAW'58, a trustee emeritus whose total donations of more than $100 million place him among Columbia's most generous benefactos. Ten faculty members were honored with Lenfest Distinguished Teaching Awards: Elizabeth Blackmar, professor of history; Virginia Page Fortna, professor of political science and chair of the Department of Political Science; Erik Gray, associate professor of English and comparative literature, Peter Kelemen, the Arthur D. Storke Memorial Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences and chair of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences; Ioannis Mylonopoulos, associate professor of art history and achaeology; Christine Philiou ’94, associate professor of history; Valerie Purdie-Vaughns ’93, associate professor of psychology; Joanna Stalnaker, associate professor of French and romance philology; Brent R. Stockwell, professor of biological sciences and chemistry; and Rafael Yuste, professor of biology and neuroscience. 

The award was created in 2005 by Trustee Emeritus Gerry Lenfest LAW58 to honor exceptional instruction and scholarship, with a special emphasis on the mentoring of students in the arts and sciences.
