The Core Blog is an opportunity for people to discuss Columbia College’s famed Core Curriculum. “Blog” might be a misnomer because this Web site isn’t written by one person. Although Columbia College Today Associate Editor Ethan Rouen ’04J regularly posts to the site and manages the discussions, all are strongly encouraged to share their thoughts.
Initially, the blog will be run as a book discussion group. We will read a book a month from the syllabus. We also will try to include other information and news items relevant to what we are reading and to the Core in general. As the blog grows, we hope to include more news, discussions and information with contributions from alumni, faculty and the larger Columbia community. So don’t be shy in sharing suggestions for how to improve your blog.
On the don’t-be-shy front, please also post frequently. Share your thoughts. The more people who contribute, the healthier the discussion will be. To write on a topic already being discussed, select that blog post and add your comments in the box at the bottom. If you want to write a longer piece, or want to start a discussion you believe has been overlooked, e-mail Ethan (ecr2102@columbia.edu) with your name, class year and essay attached as a Word document. Essays will be edited for style and length before being posted.
Have fun. Contribute. And contact us with any suggestions.
