Careers in human rights are rarely linear, and professionals often take very different routes to get established in this field. In addition, many practitioners must carve out space to do this work in positions and organizations that may not have human rights as a primary focus. We plan to include a diverse group of human rights professionals who can speak to students about different ways to do human rights work (through research, advocacy, direct services, policy development, etc.); opportunities for engaging in human rights work across different thematic areas; and work with various types of organizations that support human rights (local grassroots organizations, international NGOs, UN agencies, think tanks, foundations, etc.).  Students will learn more about their various career options by hearing about the panelists’ career paths and current work. In addition, we are asking panelists to reflect on the decisions, skills, and experiences that have been particularly valuable in their careers, and to speak candidly about the challenges they have faced and lessons they have learned. To the extent possible, we are also asking panelists to offer concrete advice to students who plan to pursue careers in human rights.  The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. Speakers Include: - Matthew Wilson: Open Society Foundations - Deputy Director, Global Drug Policy - Gianna Sanchez Moretti: International Organization for Migration- Law Officer - Rebecca Brown: Center for Reproductive Rights - Senior Director of Advocacy - Steve Miller: Warby Parker - Chief Financial Officer - Ryan Heman: Humanity United, Senior Manager - Forced Labor & Human Trafficking For Zoom login information, please access the following link.
