With our host Daniel Balsam, we investigate the unsolved mystery of Vermeer’s iconic masterpiece, “Girl with a Pearl Earring." Our detective work starts with a tour of the fantastical home where she has resided since 1903, the Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery. Our exclusive, private gallery tour of the Mauritshuis, and its spectacular collection of 17th-century Dutch paintings by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Rubens, and Brueghel is led by the museum’s senior docent, Anneloes Blok, and chief conservationist, Dr. Abbie Vandivere. We’ll learn how to analyze and appreciate 17th century Dutch Golden Age art. And then, our sleuthing brings us to discover how microscopic, diagnostic imaging techniques revealed the identity of the mysterious girl in Vermeer’s most beloved painting.
