Academic Affairs
Mission Statement
The Office of Academic Affairs provides the guidance and leadership necessary to bring together faculty, students, alumni, and administrators in ways that encourage all forms of intellectual discovery, which is the cornerstone of the entire undergraduate experience at Columbia College. Situated at the nexus of the College’s academic life, Academic Affairs upholds the standards and policies established by the faculty, while overseeing all aspects of the College curriculum and working to create a cooperative atmosphere in which to address academic concerns and issues.
Endeavoring to enhance on-campus intellectual engagement, Academic Affairs provides essential support not only to faculty and departments in order to strengthen and improve departmental majors and curricula, but also to the multidisciplinary curriculum of the Core. Committed to extending intellectual participation beyond the classroom, Academic Affairs sustains and promotes programs such as Study Abroad and Fellowships which encourage students to become informed global citizens, while fostering intellectual and social relationships between and among its diverse constituencies and providing ways and means for these groups to integrate with larger communities in and beyond Columbia University and New York City.
