Teaching
Students interested in elementary or secondary school teaching should
apply to the Barnard Education Program in the fall of their junior year,
or obtain the M.A.T. degree following graduation (see Departments
of Instruction—Education).
For the Barnard Education Program, students interested in secondary
school teaching need a minimum of 20 points from selected courses in
foundations, psychology, and education, including student teaching;
24 points are required for elementary school teaching. Those who wish
certification must take the New York State Teacher Certification Examination.
Additional information on teaching certification requirements, effective
for 2004, may be obtained from Professor Lee Anne Bell, 336 Milbank,
Barnard College or consult the Barnard
Education Program Web site.
