The William Jefferson Clinton Fellowship program enables exchange of technical skills and intellectual resources aiming at building the capacity of under-resourced Indian NGOs, while developing American leaders with a deep understanding of, and continued commitment to, India. Since 2001, nearly 265 fellows have been placed with 115 organizations across India.

The vision of the program is:

“To affect positive social and economic change in India and improve the understanding of development issues in the Indian context among potential future leaders by increasing the connectivity between American professionals and Indian NGOs”.

Its mission is:

  • To provide technical skills and intellectual resources to assist under-resourced NGOs in meeting their goals.
  • To build the next generation of leaders with an informed commitment to affecting positive social and economic change in India beyond the ten months of their fellowship.

Why William J. Clinton Fellowship?

An integral aspect of the bridge between the United States and India is people-to-people connections that strengthen political, economic and cultural ties. Yet, there are few formal opportunities for Americans to experience the Indians development space and learn about it first-hand. The Clinton Fellowship offers young Americans the chance to serve with Indian NGOs for a period of 10 months.

Some of the programs achievements have been:

  • Enhancing meaningful interface between skilled professional talent from the USA and Indian NGOs
  • Increased opportunities for Americans to gain an experience of development issues while strengthening their commitment to India
  • Connecting participating NGOs into a volunteerism-focused community
  • Building a network of close to 260 fellows, past and present, into a community of socially conscious, internationally experienced and sensitive citizens and leaders of tomorrow.
