The Baltimore City Mayoral Fellowship is a ten-week full-time placement in a mayoral office or agency in the City of Baltimore, Maryland. Fellows are assigned to projects that focus on a number different public policy issues and challenges, and they work under the direction of senior-level city government officials. Placement is based on each recipient’s background and stated interests as well as the needs of the city's agencies and department.
Mayoral Fellows receive stipends, parking vouchers for City Hall, and referrals for housing opportunities. In addition, fellows participate in a weekly brown-bag lunch series with city officials, corporate executives, and community leaders in order to gain exposure to the complexity of issues facing city governments in the U.S. Fellows participate in team-building, networking, and social activities together, including the production of a weekly newsletter. At the conclusion of the summer, fellows make presentations before the mayor and his/her cabinet officials summarizing their experiences.Summer fellowships are open to rising seniors. Those with a demonstrated interest in public service careers—particularly in city government and urban issues—are especially encouraged to apply. Consideration is given to each candidate’s application, academic achievement, public service commitment, and career interests.
