Established in 2011, in memory of Prof. Herbert Deresiewicz, a long time SEAS faculty member and department chairman who held a deep and abiding love for undergraduate teaching, the Herbert Deresiewicz Summer Research Fellowship provides support for a Columbia College or SEAS student who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and whose interest in science has been kindled by his or her experience at Columbia.  The recipient will engage in full-time laboratory research on the Morningside Heights campus in one of the following Columbia University academic departments: biological sciences, biomedical engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering. 

The recipient will receive a stipend of $5,000 and be invited to the Columbia College Academic Awards and Prizes Ceremony in May.  Extended housing to attend the ceremony will be provided.

For further information on the application requirements, see the attached application. Applicants must ensure that a letter of support from a faculty member is submitted by the deadline, personally committing to mentor the applicant during the fellowship period.
