The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy (DMI) is an urban think tank founded during the civil rights movement by associates of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The mission is to advance progressive policies in cities and for cities on a range of issues, including economic development, mass transit, workplace protections, immigration reform, and defending the role of government and the public infrastructure that creates opportunities for widely shared prosperity.
DMI Scholars is a program aimed to encourage progressive college activists on the path to careers in public policy. They are looking for sophomores, juniors and seniors attending college in the NYC metro area. During the Summer Institute, scholars will spend two weeks in New York City getting trained, attending events, visiting sites like the New York City Council, and interacting with others who are dedicated to make progress in the world. The scholars will be trained in the public policy basics, combined with social and political activities. All program expenses are covered.
