Each year, the San Francisco branch of the English-Speaking Union (ESU) offers scholarships to provide partial coverage of expenses related to the pursuit of a post-baccalaureate degree, for one or two years, at any university in the United Kingdom.
Each scholarship provides $20,000 for its recipient to use in meeting the costs of his or her course of study. Scholarships may not be combined with other scholarships if the total amount received proves to be more than actual tuition costs.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and either be San Francisco Bay Area residents or have a current affiliation with a Bay Area university. They must have a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university upon taking up their scholarships and also be accepted as entering graduate students in the U.K. Applicants should have distinguished records of academic achievement, co-curricular records demonstrating broad interests (including their communities), and excellent recommendations.
All candidates must apply to their academic programs in the U.K. independently. ESU Scholarships do not ensure admissions and will not be granted unless designated recipients can provide proof of acceptance to their intended program.
