The Herbert Deresiewicz Summer Research Fellowship, 2012, will provide support for a Columbia College or SEAS student who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and whose interest in science has been kindled by his or her experiences at Columbia.  The recipient will engage in full-time laboratory research on the Morningside Heights campus in one of the following Columbia University academic departments: Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.  The recipient will receive a stipend of $7,500.

Applicants should submit a cover letter and brief proposal (limit of two pages) summarizing their research question and work plan. Faculty sponsors should submit a letter of support committing personally to mentor the student during the fellowship period. The winner will be selected on merit by the Chair of COSI (the Committee on Science Instruction) in consultation with the Chairs of the relevant Columbia departments.
