Columbia College’s Holthusen-Schindler Scholarships, established through a behest from the estate of Lenore Holthusen in memory of her late husband Hen Holthusen, LAW ’17, provide financial support to current seniors and alumni/ae with financial need who are continuing their education at Columbia University’s Law School.

Award amounts and the number of awards available will vary according to the number of suitable recipients, but in recent years, the selection committee has awarded three scholarships of $25,000 each in support of a year of study at the Law School.

All newly admitted and continuing Columbia Law School students who are graduates of Columbia College are eligible.  Continuing students must reapply for the scholarship each year.

While terms of the award are broad, in practice the selection committee offers awards to those for whom the convergence of their own preparation for law school, professional and personal goals, and the special benefits of Columbia Law School seem most apparent.  Each candidate’s financial need for this support is also an important consideration.  For continuing law students, the committee will also factor in a candidate’s overall progress toward the degree.
