The National Institutes of Health-Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program allows top science students interested in biomedical research to complete their doctoral degree at an accelerated rate, typically completing their doctorate in four years as opposed to the national average of 7.8 years. Over the course of study, students complete a collaborative project that is international in scope, conducting research at NIH labs and labs at the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge. Upon successful defense of their thesis and publication of a first author paper, students receive their doctorate from either Oxford or Cambridge. Our graduates have gone on to faculty and postdoctoral positions at leading academic institutions, including the NIH.
In addition to the Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program, we offer the M.D./Ph.D. Partnership Training Program. The program partners with over 20 medical schools that offer Medical Science Training Program fundingto support the students’ medical training. We also work with students who do not receive MTSP awards. For the Ph.D. portion of their study, students complete a collaborative project at the NIH and a NIH approved institution. Most students take part in the Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program and complete their doctorate at one of the UK institutions.
