Steamboat Foundation Scholarships aim to cultivate promising leaders through specially designed and generously paid summer internships with partner organizations in Boston and New York.

At Columbia University each year, one Steamboat Scholar is selected from the junior class to work at Facing History and Ourselves, a Boston-based nonprofit that combats racism, anti-semitism, and prejudice through educational programs around the world.  As the sole intern in the organization's Evaluation Department, the Steamboat Scholar partners with the Director of Evaluation, the Director of Administration, and other team members on several critical evaluation projects.  Facing History utilizes these evaluations to make decisions about the direction of its innovative programs.

The scholarship provides a stipend of $12,000 for participation in the ten-week summer program, which also includes participation in foundation-sponsored activities and leadership coaching.

Candidates must be current juniors on financial aid at the time of application.  (Columbia will determine financial need based on institutional guidelines or a self-declaration submitted by the applicant.)
