Teach and Learn in Korea, also known as the “TaLK” Program, is a unique scholarship opportunity for undergraduates who are seeking a personal, professional and educational experience in Korea.

The program, which began in April 2008 under the direction of South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak, is designed to support public English education in the rural areas of Korea, where the access to higher quality educational resources are limited.

The TaLK Program is unique in many ways. To be considered eligible for our program, prospective applicants must be a graduate or a current undergraduate student with two or more years of academic credits from an accredited post-secondary institution, and hold citizenship from one of the seven major English-speaking countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Unlike most other teaching opportunities in Korea, our program offers participants to choose either a six-month or a one-year commitment. We operate two consistent intake periods per year; once in February and once in August. Finally, we place our participants almost exclusively in rural areas of South Korea as part of a government initiative to support and improve public school education.

All participants begin their scholarship term with an intensive, month-long training which provides a safe and supervised environment for new participants to adjust to their new surroundings. The training program will cover topics related to Korean culture, education, classroom management, and other related subjects that are aimed at preparing the participants for both teaching and living in Korea.

We provide benefits to our participants that ensure a comfortable living experience, and also to pursue other personal interests. These benefits include a monthly stipend of KRW 1,500,000, health insurance coverage, accommodations, a round-trip flight ticket, and cultural experience field trips.

As of Fall 2011, there are over 500 active participants in the program. Since the inception of this program, over 2,000 individuals have received this Korean government scholarship. The TaLK Office in Seoul accepts applications all-year-round, while Korean consulates, embassies and education centers operate twice a year as our recruitment branch offices.
