EEEB W4700x Race: The Tangled History of a Biological Concept 4 pts. Prerequisites: No prerequisites. From Aristotle to the upcoming 2010 US census, this course examines the history of race as a biological concept. It explores the complex relationship between the scientific study of biological differences-real, imagined, or invented and the historical and cultural factors involved in the development and expression of "racial ideas." Scientific background not required. Enrollment limited to 15. [Additional hour for film screenings in second half of the semester.]
