The Columbia University Native American Council’s 14th Annual Powwow took place on May 2 in Central Park; the gathering featured drumming, Native prayer, dancing and performances by student groups such as Mālama Hawai‘i. In this photo, head dancer Kaylee Evans ’29 (right), a member of the Haliwa-Saponi and Lumbee tribes of North Carolina, is partnered for the Potato Dance; the tuber needs to stay between the two individuals as they follow along with a drumbeat.
