CLASS NOTES

Classes of 1981

Kevin Fay
8300 Private Lane
Annandale, Va. 22003

The response to my "exhortations" is beginning to yield fruit, as several classmates have provided us with their whereabouts. We hear from Roger Keller for the very first time from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Roger married his "sweet, beautiful wife" in 1986 (same year as me...coincidence?) and they have one child (Joshua Elijah). He and his wife have a lot to be thankful for. He has recently started a day treatment program for the mentally ill, which he finds rewarding and a lot of fun. Finally, Roger has queried about the on-campus bands once so prevalent in 1979 and 1980 (The Casuals, The Power Tools, Ex-Husbands, Malibu Dolphins and Hemorrhoids). Does anyone remember these bands? Some of these sound familiar, but it's been awhile and things are starting to blur.

Michael Horowitz, Ph.D., writes from the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix for those of you who don't venture west of 10th Avenue) where he has been named president of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, assuming this position as of July 1. The Chicago School focuses on doctoral level education and training of psychologists committed to community practice. Obviously, a great big congratulation is in order for Michael.

On the subject of huge promotions, Kenneth R. Holden was appointed commissioner of design and construction by New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. His agency is responsible for most of the city's capital construction programs and has over 1,400 employees and a project portfolio valued at $4 billion. In a joint press release with the Mayor, Ken expressed the following sentiments: "It is very exciting to be part of the effort that has re-engineered the way New York City builds and manages its capital construction projects from public libraries, job opportunity centers and health clinics to new roads and water mains." Ken began with the city in 1986, and has progressed rapidly through management ranks

Finally, as was reported in the February 2000 issue of CCT, we have lost Craig McDonald, a very gifted writer, storyteller and teacher. His good friend John Fousek and others are seeking to establish a scholarship in his memory for aspiring writers from outside the United States. Please contact John at (973) 353-3284.

Thanks for providing me with a full mailbag this quarter. I hope you continue to contact CCT (or at least think about contacting us) this year.

Thanks for the e-mails! Max Dietshe is now vice president and director of creative services for Oppenheimer Funds, Inc. and lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Wendie, and daughter, Grace, 5.

Ron Simons left the corporate world after five years at Microsoft and is currently in his second year of the MFA acting program at the U. of Washington. He has been busy traveling the globe whenever possible, sometimes with his 2-year-old daughter.

When George Mostoller is not serving as a librarian in Birmingham, Ala. he can be found moonlighting in a psychedelic bluegrass funk band called Partial To Mabel. He notes that CDs and bumper stickers are available. This may come as a surprise to you, George, but I think that many of us may not know what psychedelic bluegrass funk music sounds like - until we get your CD that is. George has two children, Edward, 1, and Franklin, 9.

Ken Bernstein - living in Irvington, N.Y. with wife, Debra, and two daughters, Drew, 312, and Nina, 1 - practices intellectual property law at Amster, Rothstein & Ebenstein in New York. As he watches crews row the Hudson River during his train commute to the city, he reminisces fondly of parties that he and his suitemates Mike Saber, David Wisen, Wright Anderson, Jacques Augustin, Wayne Weddington, and Colin Redhead '85 organized at Wallace Hall. Contact him at kbernstein@arelaw.com.

Adam P. Dicker, M.D., Ph.D., is in the department of radiation oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He's married with two kids (8 and 3), living in Cherry Hill, N. J., and doing work involving prostate cancer and the use of inhibitors of angiogenesis (shutting off the blood supply to tumors, to you and me).

And while editing these class notes may not be brain surgery, it's only a matter of one "degree of separation," thanks to Langham Gleason. As a practicing neurosurgeon in Santa Fe, Langham enjoys great skiing, a very strong arts community, and exploring the great Southwest. He frequently visits his daughters Hadley (11) and Kylie (9) in Pittsburgh, and invites classmates to stay in touch at (505) 988-3233 or e-mail: langham@cnsp.com.

And if you didn't "mind" that last bio, then Eric Wakin is also going to make your head spin. "I'm working as assistant director of marketing, in charge of 'thought leadership' at Ernst & Young in New York, after stints as executive editor of Technology Investor magazine and as a business intelligence analyst with Kroll Associates. I'm still working on my Ph.D. in history at Columbia as well. Write to me at eric_wakin@yahoo.com."

For those of us surfing, our vigilant lifeguard is Saul Hansell, who writes for The New York Times (hansell@nytimes.com) covering the Internet and electronic commerce. "My wife, Lynne Eisenbrand, and I had a daughter in January 1999. She has just achieved toddler status, to our great delight and horror. We live in Chelsea."

John Stigi writes: "My wife, Ashley Bennett, and I moved from New York to San Francisco. I have joined Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in their securities litigation group."

Finally, if not downright alphabetically, Bill Weiss is enjoying the world of acquisitions as the North American region controller at WPP Group, the large advertising company whose holdings include J. Walter Thompson & Ogilvy and Mather.

Keep those e-mails coming.
