The Columbia College curriculum and its academic policies are determined by the following committees, comprised of faculty and students.

Committee on Instruction

The Committee on Instruction (COI) is responsible for approving proposals for new majors and other academic programs, new courses, and policy changes. The COI also provides leadership on a range of academic matters, consulting with a broad range of faculty, students, and administrators where relevant. The COI is a joint Columbia College and School of General Studies committee.

Educational Policy and Planning Committee

The Educational Policy and Planning Committee coordinates educational policy across the schools that make up Arts & Sciences. Each semester, the committee sets its agenda in consultation with the Executive Committee of the Arts & Sciences, and summarizes the results of its deliberations to the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. The committee is advisory to the Executive Committee and also collaborates closely with the Policy and Planning Committee.

Columbia College Student Council

The Columbia College Student Council is the elected undergraduate student government, representing the interests of all College students. CCSC comprises a five-person executive board, four standing committees and four class councils. The council’s primary goal is to address issues important to the campus community, plan events and programming for students and serve as a liaison between students and University administration. CCSC is also responsible for the allocation of student-life fees to various Columbia governing boards and to student organizations through co-sponsorships.
