The Cave: An Adaptation of Plato’s Allegory in Clay, dir. by Michael Ramsey, 2008  The allegory of the cave, appearing at the beginning of book VII of The Republic, is arguably the most well-known part of Plato’s corpus. Narrating the ascent of a philosopher from the world of shadows and illusions to that of reason and truth, this allegory has been depicted throughout the centuries and to this day in various works of art. Director Michael Ramsey’s award-winning “The Cave” is a recent animated adaptation of this allegory, bringing Plato’s letter to life through thousands of high resolution still photos of clay art.
