Reflecting on the Journey
Practicing wellness and resilience
"I think that this has been the single most educational aspect of my abroad experience and, for that matter, of college: learning how to construct a happy life, to make a home out of raw materials. Because that is what you are handed each time you pick up and move somewhere new — building blocks for a new life that you are responsible for assembling. There isn’t really a clear way to go about it each time, but I walk through life now with great confidence in the fact that, no matter where I go or what I do, I will be alright. And whether it takes two days or two years, home can be wherever I want to make it."

“Even if I’ve had a really great day, I come to meditation to check in with myself and feel more focused and grounded. The bhakti mantra is only as spiritual or religious as you want it to be. For some people it’s a tool for mindfulness, while for others it is their faith. I think there’s a lot of people at Columbia who are trying to do it all by themselves and put up a brave face. But, there’s nothing wrong with taking care of yourself even when you’re really busy and making great accomplishments.”

"The experience I look back on most fondly is my work with the Student Wellness Project. Our club does all kinds of events on campus focused on increasing wellness here. We do fun things like candy runs in Butler where we write encouraging quotes and put them on Hershey's Kisses during finals. We’ve also had a walk on suicide awareness and prevention. It’s been a really great space for me to examine my own mental health and the health of others here on campus, and work with other students to make this the healthiest and happiest place it could be."
