Gene Finn named Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations

Gene Finn has been named Vice President of Development, Arts and Sciences, and Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations for Columbia College, Dean James J. Valentini and Interim Executive Vice President for University Development and Alumni Relations Amelia J. Alverson announced on Wednesday. 

Finn, who will assume his responsibilities on Aug. 4, comes to Columbia from Kent State University, where he serves as Vice President for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the Kent State University Foundation. As a member of the President’s cabinet, he is responsible for the University’s Office of Institutional Advancement and Office of Alumni Relations and managed the largest campaign in the school’s history, reaching and exceeding the goal nine months ahead of scheduled completion. He also organized the first university-wide leadership summit of boards and advisory panels and coordinated a series of events across the country to engage alumni. 

Finn previously served as the associate vice president of advancement for The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw development for the College of Arts and Sciences, special programs and served as the Director for Alumni Relations programs. He received his Master of Arts degree from GWU and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College.

“Gene brings a wealth of experience with development and alumni relations that will help us achieve our alumni engagement goals,” Valentini said. “We are pleased that he will be joining our alumni relations and development community this summer.”
