Description:
Gabriel Lu has worked at the Vaccine Research Center, NIAID in Dr. Peter D. Kwong's Structural Biology Lab for the past two years. In 2011, he focused on developing a high-throughput protein expression technology to enable screening and functional complementation of different HIV-1 neutralizing antibodies. In 2012, he studied 10E8, a newly isolated HIV-1 antibody that can neutralize 98% of all HIV-1 strains and discovered it uses a different mechanism to neutralize the virus than other antibodies of its class. He also attempted to crystallize a 10E8 scaffold that can be used as a possible immunogen for clinical trials. He is interested in a variety of research areas ranging from crystallography, to heart disease, to studies aimed to improve the quality of medical care.
