Barnard announces memorial gatherings for Daniella Moffson BC’17

Thursday, January 14, 2016

Below is a message that Barnard College President Debora Spar and Barnard College Dean Avis Hinkson shared with the Barnard community on Thursday.

Remembering Daniella Moffson

Dear Barnard Community,

As I know you have heard by now, Barnard has suffered a tremendous loss in the death of Daniella Moffson ’17.

Daniella was a psychology major who was devotedly preparing for medical school. Before coming to Barnard, she attended the Ramaz School and took a gap year in Israel where she studied and volunteered with children, knowing that it would make her college experience that much richer. Throughout her time at Barnard, she was very involved with Hillel and the Jewish community.

I want to let you know what has been planned thus far to honor Daniella’s memory. This evening, students and members of the community will gather at the Kraft Center (606 West 115th Street) at 7:00 p.m. for sharing, prayers, singing, and support.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning, Friday, January 15, at 10:00 a.m., in the Main Synagogue at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun, 125 East 85th Street (between Lexington and Park Avenues). The Moffson family will be sitting shiva through Thursday morning, January 21.

On Sunday, January 17, Barnard will hold a listening session at 600 116th Street in the second floor lounge, from5:00-7:00 p.m.

Notes of condolence can be sent to Daniella’s family at MSRDA@aol.com, and you can share your thoughts and memories via the link below.

The entire Barnard community mourns the loss of this extraordinary young woman, and we are grateful to have opportunities to come together to celebrate her life.

Most sincerely,
