Students covered under new Undergraduate International Travel Policy

Tuesday, February 21, 2017

Columbia College, Columbia Engineering and the School of General Studies have announced a new Undergraduate International Travel Policy.

This is a complement to the University’s International Travel Planning Policy, which was updated this spring, and applies to all student travel outside of the United States that is organized, funded, arranged or recognized by Columbia taking place on or after Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

The Undergraduate International Travel Policy requires that all students in Columbia College, Columbia Engineering and the School of General Studies, as well as select students from other schools, who have secured an academic, service, internship, or research opportunity apply for School Sponsorship at least four weeks prior to departure, and update their application with any changes to their travel plans. Students are also required to be in compliance with the University’s policy, which includes maintaining adequate health insurance with international coverage while abroad.

The Undergraduate International Travel Policy also requires that all academic, service, internship or research opportunities for undergraduates in Columbia College, Columbia Engineering and the School of General Studies that are organized or funded in any way by a faculty member, recognized student group, department, institute, program, or school in the University receive Program Approval from the Undergraduate Travel Review Committee at least six weeks prior to departure.
