As an Urban Studies major, Maia is interested in how people relate to, occupy, and claim the spaces they inhabit. More specifically, she is interested in how Black women create spaces and communities focused on the care of their hair and bodies. She hopes to better understand this by looking closely at black women's hair and the relationship it has to commonly held ideas about labor, art, and possession.
