Beau Willimon CC’99, SOA’03, will be the speaker at the School of the Arts Celebration of Graduates on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. The ceremony will be held in Miller Theatre at 2 p.m. on the Morningside campus.
Two science students have received the top academic honors for the Columbia College Class of 2015. Robert Lin, a mathematics and physics major from Bergen County, New Jersey, has been named valedictorian, and Stephanie Gergoudis, a biology major from Queens, New York, has been named salutatorian.
Brian Trippe CC’16, a biochemistry and computer science major, has won a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, the premier undergraduate award in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

The Academic Awards Committee of the Columbia College Student Council has announced the winners of the 2015 Mark Van Doren Teaching Award and the 2015 Lionel Trilling Book Award. Austin E. Quigley, Brander Matthews Professor of Dramatic Literature and former dean of Columbia College, is the recipient of the 2015 Mark Van Doren Teaching Award for excellence in teaching, and Zainab Bahrani, Edith Porada Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Art and Archaeology, is the recipient of the 2015 Lionel Trilling Book Award for her book, The Infinite Image: Art, Time and the Aesthetic Dimension in Antiquity.
Ben Horowitz CC’88, cofounder and partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), will give the keynote address for Columbia Engineering’s Class Day ceremony, which will be held on May 18, 2015.
Columbia College is offering four new fellowships during the summer of 2015 to give students more opportunities to study or do research abroad: the Columbia College International Summer Fund, the Undergraduate Global Policy Fellowship, the Beesen Global Experience Research Fellowship and the Harvey Krueger Global Experience Fellowship.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti CC’92 will deliver the keynote address at the 2015 Columbia College Class Day ceremony. The annual event, which honors graduating seniors, will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, on the South Lawn of Columbia’s Morningside Heights campus.

Students from Barnard College, Columbia College, General Studies and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science may enter to win funds for the most innovative and viable business proposal. The top three teams will split a $50,000 prize.
