This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career related to the environment or for Native American or Alaska Native students who are committed to careers in tribal public policy or Native health care.
The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program (FINIP) aims to develop student leaders and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Indonesia. IIE will select and pair 10 Indonesian students pursuing U.S. degrees with 10 U.S. undergraduates and arrange internships for them to work together in an Indonesian nonprofit organization.
Five alumni who have excelled in their careers each will be presented a 2011 John Jay Award for distinguished professional achievement on Wednesday, March 2, at the annual John Jay Awards Dinner.
This year’s honorees are Andrew Barth ’83, president, Capital Guardian Trust; Alexander Navab ’87, partner and co-head of North American Private Equity, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.; Kenneth Ofori-Atta ’84, executive chairman and co-founder, Databank Financial Services; Michael Oren ’77, Israeli ambassador to the United States; and Elizabeth D. Rubin ’87, a journalist.
Individual or groups of students are invited to submit innovative and engaging proposals for projects focused on conflict resolution and the breaking down of barriers to peace. Deadline for applications is January 28, 2011.
New York Needs You is a mentoring and career program for first-generation college students. The program provides biweeklky career workshops in which NYNY Fellows develop relationships with community and business leaders, connect for internships, and receive a professional development grant.
The internal deadline for the Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellows Program has been extended until January 10, 2011.
To sustain its mission of teaching, research, patient care and public service in the years ahead, Columbia University is expanding its current fundraising goal to $5 billion. Even though the multi-year Columbia Campaign has spanned a severe economic recession, it remains on pace to exceed its original $4 billion goal for new gifts and pledges nearly a year ahead of schedule.

Columbia College student Anna Feuer (CC’11) has been selected as a 2011 Marshall Scholar. She is one of 31 recipients in this year’s competition. An English major from Los Angeles, Anna will be attending Oxford next fall where she will spend her first year pursuing a Masters in Global and Imperial History followed by a Masters in English Literature in her second year.
