“Jesus the Jew-But What Sort of Jew?” John P. Meier, University of Notre Dame
John P. Meier, Professor of New Testament, at the University of Notre Dame, has written extensively on the figure of the historical Jesus (that is, what if anything can we know about the historical Jesus of Nazareth) and the Gospel of Matthew. While scholars of the twentieth century have stressed that Jesus of Nazareth was a Jew, debate still rages over the refining of this statement. Exactly what sort of Jew was Jesus? In this lecture, Professor Meier offers his interpretation of this vexing question.
