The Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul, known as the Blue Mosque for the tiles adorning the walls of its interior, was built by the Ottomans between 1609 and 1616. The mosque’s design incorporates elements of Ottoman Islamic influences and Byzantine church construction. It remains arguably the most iconic and most visited mosque in the world.
