Francesca da Rimini, by Riccardo Zandonai, 1914

Relates to:

Francesca da Rimini, by Riccardo Zandonai, 1914.

This episode in the third act of Riccardo Zandonai's opera depicts the culminating scene of Paolo and Francesca's fateful fall into the throes of passion, as recounted in Inferno, Canto 5.

Following Francesca's argument in the Circle of Lust, this aria, "E Galeotto dice," implicates the act of reading as a catalyst for action and ties into Boccaccio's use of the name "Galeotto" (Prince Galahalt) as the subtitle for the Decameron.
