Lecture by Paula Fredriksen on Paul and Augustine on the Redemption of the Jews.

Relates to:

In this lecture, Paula Fredriksen, William Goodwin Aurelio Chair Emerita of the Appreciation of Scripture at Boston University, traces Augustine of Hippo’s reception and interpretation of Paul’s epistles (and other scriptural books as well). Fredriksen begins by outlining the various and complex theological arguments of Paul’s letters, situating them within the context of his Judaism. Fredriksen emphasizes the struggle Paul induced in his later interpreters; how Augustine, in this case, attempted to account for the great apostle Paul’s affiliation with Judaism and to rectify the theological status of the Jews.
