Sargon of Akkad, c. 23rd – 22nd century BCE
Sargon was a famed general and leader in Mespotamia in the 23rd century BCE. It’s generally recognized that Moses’s birth story is a reference to Sargon’s, which is extremely similar. Though the histories don’t match up exactly, could it be that Sargon’s political fame influenced the composer’s of the Bible? What would this mean for our understanding of Moses as a Biblical character?
