Telesterion
Relates to:
Eleusis, the town where the cult of Demeter was celebrated, was 14 miles northwest of Athens. The Mysteries took place inside a building called the Telesterion; unlike Greek temples which were surrounded by columns and offered a view of their inside, the Telesterion had walls on all sides indicating the secret nature of the mysteries and the privacy maintained by those initiated.
