A TV Dante, by Peter Greenaway, 1989
A TV Dante, by Peter Greenaway, 1989.
In typical Greenaway fashion, this made-for-TV movie narrates and interprets the first eight cantos of Dante's Inferno (up to the entrance to the city of Dis). The text is read entirely in "talking head" fashion, and punctuated with a kaleidoscopic blend of both newly shot and archival footage.
In 1991, Peter Greenaway won the Prix Italia for his ambitious project to produce a video version Dante's Inferno.
