Retranslating Literary Classics
Course-wide Lecture, Spring 2014
with Edith Grossmanm, Wyatt Mason, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky
This semester, we are fortunate to be able to bring to you a group of translators to talk about the challenges and significance of translating the classics. Most notably, this panel will include three scholars who have translated works on our spring Lit Hum syllabus. Edith Grossman, translator of our Don Quijote, Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky, translators of our Crime and Punishment, will be joined by Wyatt Mason (who works on Montaigne) in a conversation moderated by Susan Bernofsky, the director of Literary Translation at Columbia.
