Artist Stephen Davan ’12 Illustrates His College Experience

Stephen Davan Portrait (Headshot)
Stephen Davan ’12 is an artist and illustrator from the world of theater design. For more than a decade he has made his career as a scenic designer for Broadway, film and television; his credits as an associate designer and art director include Angels in America and Frozen (Broadway), The Phantom of the Opera (World Tour), Elsbeth (CBS) and Severance (Apple TV+).

As a visual artist, Davan’s work encompasses a variety of subjects — architecture, portraiture, urban scenes — all rendered with a theatrical sensibility and careful draftsman’s eye. He is perhaps most at home depicting his theater colleagues. His forthcoming graphic novel, Strike The Ghost Light, was inspired by his experiences working onstage and behind the scenes in Broadway houses.

A designer of two “V-Shows” during his College years, Davan was delighted to receive the Varsity Show’s I.A.L. Diamond Award for Achievement in the Arts in 2024.
