Submit your Core Reflection here! The Core Scholars 2024-2025 deadline for entries is Friday, March 21, 2025. Core Scholars will be selected and notified by the end of April.
What is the Core Scholars Program?
Each year the Core Scholars Program invites anyone who has taken a Core course to reflect on the materials of the Core Curriculum by creating a Core Reflection. Students who create exceptionally creative and well-executed Reflections will be honored as Core Scholars, and their Core Reflections may be featured on Columbia College social media.
What is a Core Reflection?
Core Reflections analyze, question, dramatize, interpret, and (of course) reflect on the courses of the Core Curriculum: Art Humanities, Contemporary Civilization, Frontiers of Science, Literature Humanities, Music Humanities, and University Writing. These projects aim to enhance understanding of the Core, establish connections between Core works, and draw meaningful relationships between the Core and the world in which we live.
A wide variety of formats and styles are welcome, including film, music, theater, dance, painting, drawing, photography, graphic novels, essays, poetry, and fiction. Students are encouraged to push the boundaries beyond what would normally be required by a Core course. Be creative!
