On August 7, former New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito ’91 announced her candidacy to represent the 15th Congressional District in the U.S. Congress. In a bilingual announcement on her Twitter account, Mark-Viverito shared, “My name is Melissa Mark-Viverito. And today, I’m announcing my candidacy to represent the Bronx in the United States Congress. I served as Speaker of the NYC Council for five years, where I’ve fought for women, immigrants, LGBTQ communities, and black and brown New Yorkers that have historically been ignored by our government. You deserve a representative whose sole priority is your well being. A representative focused on ensuring that the same opportunities are available to you regardless of zip code, geography or income. I am committed to being that representative. A better today and tomorrow is possible. Let’s do this ‘thing’ together.”

Beau Willimon ’99, SOA’03, showrunner of the hit Netflix show House of Cards and writer of the recent film Mary Queen of Scots, is running unopposed for reelection to a two-year term as president of the Writers Guild of America East. He has held the position since 2017; results will be announced September 20.

Brandon Victor Dixon ’03 is featured in the trailer for the film Modern Love, based on the popular New York Times column and podcast of the same name.
