More than 1,200 students from the Columbia College Class of 2019 took part in the Class Day ceremony held on May 21, celebrating their accomplishments with family and friends from across the globe, as well as faculty and alumni from 1954 to 2018, who returned to campus to process in the annual Alumni Parade of Classes.
Twelve Columbia College students and two alumni have received 2019-2020 Fulbright U.S. Student grants to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and primary and secondary school teaching worldwide, making it the largest group of Fulbright students to represent the College in years.
Columbia College has announced the names of 97 seniors who will be initiated into Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society.
The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association named Columbia first-year Sienna Durr its 2018-19 All-Met Women's Div. I Rookie of the Year on Friday. Durr is the first Lion in program history to win the award.
The Academic Awards Committee of Columbia College is pleased to announce that Andrew Delbanco, the Alexander Hamilton Professor of American Studies, has been awarded the 44th annual Lionel Trilling Book Award for his book The War Before the War: Fugitive Slaves and the Struggle for America's Soul from the Revolution to the Civil War, and that Frank A. Guridy, associate professor of history and African American studies, has been awarded the 58th annual Mark Van Doren Award for Teaching for his “Humanity, Devotion to Truth and Inspiring Leadership.”
Sofia Nina-Bernardes Martins CC’19and Jessica Bai CC’19 have been named valedictorian and salutatorian respectively, the top academic honors for the Columbia College Class of 2019.
