Columbia University announced the establishment of the Mendelson Center for Undergraduate Business Initiatives, a joint program between Columbia College and Columbia Business School. The Center was established with a $10 million gift from the Mendelson family, whose relationship with Columbia spans four generations. The Center will foster an ongoing business education program for select Columbia undergraduates.

Columbia College has announced a series of new courses, “Food: An Interdisciplinary Perspective,” thanks to a $750,000 gift from the Chapman Perelman Foundation, a New York-based foundation that gives to health, human services and education causes. The courses will provide students with a holistic understanding of food in the 21st century, considering questions such as how to feed a growing global population in a way that is sustainable with regards to the environment and public health.

Former Columbia College Dean and Columbia Law School Emeritus Professor Jack Greenberg CC’45, LAW’48, the legendary attorney who successfully argued many of the nation’s landmark civil rights cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, forming the legal basis for desegregation in America, died on October 12, 2016. He was 91.
