Join Julie Satow as she draws on her expert knowledge of NY history and culture to whisk readers to a bygone era of innovation and glitz, chronicling the rise of the department store through portraits of the three female presidents of Bonwit Teller, Lord & Taylor, and Henri Bendel, who broke barriers and glass ceilings as they changed American fashion forever.

Julie Satow CC'96 IA'01 is the award-winning author of “The Plaza: The Secret Life of America’s Most Famous Hotel” and the forthcoming “When Women Ran Fifth Avenue: Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion,” to be published in June 2024 by Doubleday.

A regular contributor to the New York Times, her work has also appeared on National Public Radio, Bloomberg Businessweek, Travel + Leisure, and elsewhere. A graduate of Columbia College, she has a Master’s Degree from Columbia University’s School of International Affairs.
