On October 15, 2005 Columbia debuted its revamped college mascot, Roar-ee. The name was chosen from more than 200 "Name the Mascot" contest entries, with different spelling variations of "Roar-ee" comprising 12 entries. Other finalists were "Hamilton," "Hudson," "K.C." and "J.J."

In 2006, Columbia Athletics revealed a new logo as well, an updated, cleaner version of the lion from the early 1980s,
