The Columbia College Women Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 through a partnership with the Columbia College Fund and Columbia College Women (CCW). The scholarship is awarded to Columbia College students with financial need and an interest in women's studies or women's rights. Since its inception, the scholarship has supported nine students.
Directing a gift to the Columbia College Women Scholarship Fund is a great way to directly support students and learn about its impact on their undergraduate experience. Contributions made throughout the fiscal year are combined and awarded to one or more students in the following academic year. Donors who give will receive a profile about the student who benefitted from their support.
Below the 2020-21 Columbia College Women Scholarship Fund recipients, Rayna Berggren CC’21 and Hanna Sweeney CC’21, share highlights of their undergraduate experiences made possible by the generosity of financial aid donors.

During my time at Columbia College, my play The August 22nd Of My Childhood was selected as a winner of the 2017 Blank Theatre’s Nationwide Young Playwrights Festival. I interned at The Broad Stage and Los Angeles Review of Books, which exposed me to the inner workings of a modern publication and the intricacies of editorial work. I also produced my play Disaster Preparedness in partnership with NOMADS, a Columbia theater group that brings student-written productions to life.

As an English major, experiencing the Core Curriculum significantly impacted my education even beyond the Core classes themselves. Both Literature Humanities and Contemporary Civilization opened my eyes to a wealth of literary allusions in the novels I study outside of the Core; I see the Odyssey in experimental feminist poetry and Platonic philosophy in literature surrounding war and atrocity. All my classes, as a result of the Core, have bled together, connecting themes and motifs in a cohesive and thought-provoking experience.
