Anthony “Tony” Tutrone CC’86

Global Head of Alternative Investments, Neuberger Berman

Anthony “Tony” Tutrone CC’86 is the global head of alternative investments at Neuberger Berman, a private, employee-owned investment management firm with more than $440 billion of assets under management.

Tutrone started Neuberger Berman’s alternative investment business in 2002. Today, it manages over $120 billion across private market and semi-liquid alternative investment strategies on behalf of institutional and high-net-worth clients around the world. The team has grown to 300-plus dedicated professionals operating out of 15 offices across North America, Europe and Asia.

Tutrone is a member of Neuberger Berman’s Partnership, Asset Allocation and Private Market Investment Committees. He is also a member of its Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Council and is a senior sponsor of the NB Black Experience employee resource group. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of several public and private companies and has been on the advisory boards of several private equity funds. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Identity Digital and Marquee Brands, and a member of Blue Owl’s Strategic Capital Investment Committee (formerly Dyal Capital).

Prior to working at Neuberger Berman, from 1994 to 2001, Tutrone was a founding member and managing director of The Cypress Group, a private equity firm focused on middle market buyouts that managed approximately $3.5 billion of commitments. He began his career at Lehman Brothers in 1986 and was one of the original members of that firm’s Merchant Banking Group, which managed a $1.2 billion private equity fund focused on investing in middle market companies.

Tutrone’s B.A. is in economics, and he also earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Columbia College Board of Visitors.

Tutrone lives in New York City with his wife of 36 years, Amy Tutrone. The couple has two children, Will BUS’22 and Annie. Tutrone and his wife are passionate about making higher education more accessible to lower-income families, and they have endowed high school, college and graduate student scholarships. They are also proud supporters of charities in their community as well as of foundations supporting U.S. military members and their families.
